WHAT WE'RE DOING

Council Training Day:

We began our year as Student Council with a training day to prepare ourselves for the year ahead and discuss how to best get involved in the school this year. We elected our member positions, discussed our goals for the year and all decided on our mantra of "Just Do It". Thanks to Pat Murphy for giving us his time and guiding us throughout our training day.

Halloween Day:

We organised a Halloween dress up day to celebrate the Mid-Term and a great first two months to the new school year. We created a promotional poster and anticipation grew throughout the week around the school. €1,000 was raised for Pieta House who we have invited in as a council to present our donation to them. There were some really great costumes on display around the school- well done in particular to our competition winners! It was a really enjoyable day in the school, well done to everyone for the great effort!

- Leo Rowley as "Baby Willis" in 1st Year

- Liam Browne Zarpellon in 2nd Year

- Killian Lascurain in 3rd Year

- Ollie Crowley as Patrick Bateman from "American Psycho" in 4th Year

- James Fagan in 5th Year

- Max Wall as Gru, the leader of the minions in 6th Year

- Mr O'Flynn as Alan from "The Hangover"

Pieta House:

The School Council were delighted to welcome Ms Dee Hayden from Pieta House to the school today and present her with a cheque of €1,000 - the proceeds from their fundraising school fancy dress day.

Parents Association Meeting:

In advance of our 6th Year members meeting with the parents association, we met together as a council to identify and brainstorm ideas on how to best spend the funds available. Richard and Garrett then met with the Parents Association committee to present the Student Council ideas to them. Thanks to the parents association for inviting us in and giving us their time.

Christmas:

We organised a Christmas Jumper Day as a way to get everyone in the Christmas mood before exams started. Well done to everyone who got involved and we hope everyone enjoys the Christmas break.

The St. Michael's Student Council and a few Transition Year students visited Dáil Éireann on Tuesday, April 25th.  Mr Jim O'Callaghan, T.D. arranged for the boys to get a tour of Leinster House.  The students got to sit in on Taoiseach's questions in the Dáil and attend a sitting of the Seanad.  Thanks to Mr. Hogan and Ms. O'Grady for arranging and travelling with the boys.

Bean Bags

One of our aims this year was to add to the to the social aspects of school life and to do this we got new bean bags scattered around the corridors. They’ve been a great thing to have for after-school, thanks to the PA for helping us achieve this goal.

End of Year Review

On Monday 15/05, we had our last meeting of the year. We reviewed what we got done this year and put in place a plan to build on for next year. Thanks to Ms O’Grady for all her help this year and the school community for their help.
